Real Rock Month: Drivin N Cryin
Real Rock Month isn’t just about new bands, we also wanna shower some love on lifers who’re keeping the faith. To wit, Drivin’ n’ Cryin’, the long-lived Southern rockers lead by good captainKevn Kinney, part of the under-appreciated pantheon that includes Peter Case, Dave Alvin and other major singer-songwriters to rise to prominence in the 80s and never drop off in terms of quality since. While quiet for a few years, Drivin’ n’ Cryin’ seems to be kicking up some dust of late, releasing a swell live album in June, and announcing that work has begun on a What Lies In Your Debt?

Dennis had a blast talking to him a few years back, and figures we’re overdue for a check-in. For now, kick over a bar stool and get down with this pair of amp rattlers. The purity of loud guitars, swilling liquor and a hot girl “built like a Cadillac” in the “Detroit City” clip makes us feel 16 all over again. And we couldn’t resist the flashback to 1991.
