This album is full of melodic power. The strongest of all the DNC albums imho. First to last track, it’s all good. The acoustic blends with the electric, and will give you a satisfying listen time and time again. It’s my most-listened to disc by DNC.
Their most diverse, complex, & complete offering. My personal favorite. I don’t think this is the one to start with as a newbie, but I suspect this is the favorite of many hardcore DNC fans. It spans the gamut from folk-inflected, to alt-country, to hard rock–and that ability to blend those styles is really what always made DNC one of my favorite bands. I take this one on many a road trip, and it never disappoints. I think the harder rockin’ tunes (tracks 4, 5, 8-10) have aged particularly gracefully. To me, they sound as good in 2009 as ever (unlike Fly Me Courageous, for instance). This probably is a compliment to the production as much as the song writing. A strong artistic statement from a band that didn’t always asapire to high art.
